| Description: | Este artículo discute las crecientes dificultades que la democracia enfrenta en México. Se enfoca en el impacto social de las reformas económicas neoliberales que fueron aplicadas para ajustar el Estado a las restricciones y necesidades de la sociedad del siglo XXI, en lugar de eso estas reformas han desmantelado el Estado y han fomentado la inequidad. Sin embargo, la ausencia de una autoridad central que refuerce la aplicación de la ley no ha logrado consolidar una sociedad más democrática. Esto ha llevado a la conformación de un sistema que no está gobernado por instituciones sino dominado por élites que se resisten al cambio, ya que pone en peligro sus intereses. This article discusses the growing difficulties that democracy confronts in Mexico today. It focuses on the social impact of neoliberal economic reforms that were meant to adjust the State to the restrictions and needs of XXIst century societies, instead of which these reforms dismantled the State and fostered inequality. The result has been a system of strong elites and weak institutions. However, the absence of a centralized law-enforcement authority does not bring about a more democratic society. Social minorities of privilege tend to appropriate a disproportionate amount of social resources and to impose their particular interest on the rest of society. |
