Description:	Para François Houtart, el compromiso religioso y el compromiso social no podían ser disociados, como tampoco podían serlo el análisis de la realidad social y las luchas sociales por transformarla. Era al mismo tiempo teólogo, sociólogo y militante global. Este artículo analiza los principales ejes de las contribuciones de François Houtart a las ciencias sociales contemporáneas a partir de las convicciones que guiaron su compromiso como sociólogo junto a los actores sociales. La primera parte hace un breve recorrido de su trayectoria y su contribución a la teología de la liberación. La segunda enfatiza el rol precursor de François Houtart en las ciencias sociales en particular en el diálogo con las epistemologías del Sur que invita a analizar el mundo, los mecanismos de opresión y los proyectos de emancipación desde las perspectivas de los actores sociales y de los oprimidos del Sur del planeta siguiendo el enfoque de “otra mundialización”. For François Houtart, a theologian, a sociologist and a global activist, the religious and the social commitments cannot be dissociated, neither way the analysis of social reality with the social struggles for its transformation. This article analyzes the main axes of François Houtart's contributions to the contemporary social sciences, since the convictions that guided his compromise as sociologist with the other social actors. The first part is a briefing of his career and his contribution to the theology of liberation. The second part emphasizes the forerunner role of François Houtar in the social sciences. Particularly, in the dialogue with the epistemologies of the South while he invite us to analyze the world, the mechanisms of oppression and the emancipations projects from the perspectives of the social actors and the oppressed of the planet, according to the "other globalization" approach.
