Description:	El análisis del periódico chileno El Mercurio da cuenta de la tendencia de sus relatos a relevar la diferencia entre “el mapuche” y “el chileno”, con el objetivo de identificar un enemigo que le permita promover sentimientos nacionalistas al atribuir al mapuche características negativas como: “salvajes, bárbaros e incivilizados”, en el siglo XIX; “oportunistas, desagradecidos y viciososo” en el siglo XX; y “flojos, improductivos y enemigos del progreso”, en el siglo XXI. Todo lo anterior, aunque con matices en las valoraciones, indica que la matriz colonial del poder se mantiene prácticamente inalterada. The analysis of the Chilean newspaper El Mercurio accounts for the tendency of his stories to reveal the difference between “the Mapuche” and “the Chilean”, with the aim of identifying an enemy that allows him to promote nationalist feelings by attributing to the Mapuche negative characteristics such as: “savages, barbarians and uncivilized”, in the 19th century; “Opportunists, ungrateful and vicious” in the twentieth century; and “lazy, unproductive and enemies of progress”, in the 21st century. All of the above, although with nuances in the valuations, indicates that the colonial matrix of power remains practically unchanged. A análise do jornal chileno El Mercurio explica a tendência de suas histórias de revelar a diferença entre “os mapuches” e “os chilenos”, com o objetivo de identificar um inimigo que lhe permita promover sentimentos nacionalistas, atribuindo às características negativas mapuche como: “selvagens, bárbaros e incivilizados”, no século 19; “oportunistas, ingratos e cruéis” no século XX; e “preguiçoso, improdutivo e inimigo do progresso”, no século XXI. Todos os itens acima, embora com nuances nas avaliações, indicam que a matriz colonial de poder permanece praticamente inalterada.
