| Description: | En el presente artículo la mirada se centra en examinar las diferentes representaciones promovidas por la misión salesiana en torno al matrimonio shuar, desde una perspectiva de género. El contexto abarca el primer período de la incursión salesiana, entre 1893 y 1925, en el interior del Vicariato Apostólico de Méndez y Gualaquiza –actual provincia de Morona Santiago–. Este territorio está localizado en la indefinida frontera del sur de la Amazonía ecuatoriana, colindante con el Perú, y habitado por los aénts chicham (shuar, achuar, wampis, awajún y shiwiar). This article uses a gender-based approach to study the different representations of Shuar marriage developed by Salesian missionaries. The study covers the 1893-1925 period, which witnessed the earliest arrival of the Salesian missionaries into de Gualaquiza-Mendez Apostolic Vicariate, in what is now the Morona-Santiago province in Ecuador. This territory is located in the ill-defined southern Ecuadorian-Peruvian Amazonian border. It is inhabited by several aents chicham indigenous ethnic groups which include the shuar, achuar, wampis, awajún y shiwiar peoples. |
