| Description: | En un contexto en que el extractivismo minero se profundiza en América Latina, en el presente artículo se abordan los itinerarios de acción colectiva que poblaciones locales del sur andino ecuatoriano han seguido para la defensa del agua ante los proyectos Río Blanco y Loma Larga en Quimsacocha, ubicados en el cantón Cuenca, provincia Azuay. Dentro de tales itinerarios transitó en cortes una acción de protección que obtuvo fallo positivo y logró frenar el proyecto Río Blanco y se concretaron dos consultas populares –Girón y Cuenca–. In a context in which mining extractivism is expanding in Latin America, this article deals with the collective action agendas that local populations in the southern Andean region of Ecuador have followed to defend water against the Rio Blanco and Loma Larga projects in Quimsacocha, located in the Cuenca canton, Azuay province. Within such agendas, an injunction was filed in the courts, which obtained a positive ruling and managed to stop the Río Blanco project, and two popular consultations were held –Girón and Cuenca. |
