| dc.description | En este artículo se argumenta que durante los últimos treinta años la violencia real y simbólica del neoliberalismo ha creado lo que cabe llamar las zonas muertas del capitalismo, donde los valores y prácticas de la indisponibilidad y la muerte social han sustituido los elementos importantes de un sistema de gobierno democrático con una cultura de la codicia, el militarismo y el espectáculo cruel de la violencia. En su forma actual la política neoliberal, la economía y la pedagogía pública se han convertido en un registro de lo difícil que es para la sociedad estadunidense rescatar la memoria pública, los esfuerzos históricos y la promesa de una democracia por venir. En tanto el ámbito de lo social desaparece, los valores públicos y cualquier consideración del bien común son borrados de la política, mientras que el Estado social y los modos responsables de gobernar se sustituyen por la militarización, un Estado punitivo y una noción darwiniana de las relaciones sociales. Este documento sostiene que si vamos a imaginar otro tipo de sociedad diferente a la que actualmente vivimos, es imperativo para los intelectuales, educadores, artistas y otros trabajadores culturales abrazar instituciones, discursos y otros modos de representación capaces de imaginar una noción emancipadora de la pedagogía, la acción y los esfuerzos colectivos. Esto requiere no sólo poner en evidencia cómo el neoliberalismo intensifica las patologías del racismo, la guerra, la desigualdad y la violencia, sino también la forma en que podría ser posible hacer frente al desafío de desarrollar una política y una pedagogía que imaginen y luchen por una democracia radical. | es_EC |
| dc.description | In this article, I argue that for the past thirty years, the symbolic and real violence of neoliberalism have created what I call the dead zones of capitalism where the values and practices of disposability and social death have replaced important elements of a democratic polity with a culture of greed, militarism, and cruel spectacles of violence. In its current form neoliberal politics, economics, and public pedagogy have become a register of how difficult it is for American society to make any claims on public memory, historical struggles, and the promise of a democracy to come. As the realm of the social disappears, public values and any consideration of the common good are erased from politics, while the social state and responsible modes of governing are replaced by a corporate, militarizing, and punishing state and a Darwinian notion of social relations. This paper argues that if we are to imagine another type of society than the one which we currently inhabit, it is imperative for intellectuals, educators, artists, and other cultural workers to embrace a institutions, discourses and other modes of representation capable of imagining an emancipatory notion of pedagogy, agency, and collective struggle. In part, this means not only making evident how neoliberalism intensifies the pathologies of racism, war, inequality, and violence but also how it might be possible take up the challenge of developing a politics and pedagogy that both imagines and struggles for a radical democracy. | es_EC |
