Esta investigación busca ser un aporte al conocimiento de la naturaleza de la identidad profesional docente, IPD, y lo realiza por medio de la comprensión de las historias personales de estudiantes de educación de párvulos en Chile, pertenecientes a la primera cohorte con gratuidad después de casi cuatro décadas de su abolición. Los principales hallazgos de este estudio permiten posicionar y comprender la existencia, a modo de prefiguración, de cierta IPD previa al ingreso a la carrera, existencia que se manifiesta en expresiones de variadas estructuras identitarias, tanto en los espacios de socialización primaria, la familia, como en el espacio de socialización secundaria, la escuela. Según entendemos, estas construcciones identitarias resultan de relevancia al momento de la elección de carrera y funcionan a modo de teorías implícitas agrupadas como elementos constitutivos de su identidad profesional. Nos referimos a ciertas representaciones que dibujan un arco entre ideas tales como vocación, habilidades, competencias y el reconocimiento de los conocimientos y tareas propias de su campo de inserción profesional. Según se releva en el estudio, estas construcciones identitarias acompañan la formación inicial docente de las futuras educadoras, reconstruyéndose y complejizándose, en un proceso de cambio conceptual que se experimenta durante la formación universitaria, especialmente en el marco de asignaturas prácticas y de toma de conciencia respecto a la profesionalización del rol. A partir de conceptos tales como habitus y distinción de Bourdieu, que posicionan teóricamente la investigación, orientan los procesos de levantamiento de datos y emergen conceptos claves como prefiguración de la IPD, elección de carrera, biografías; y categorías tales como experiencias, afectos y emociones e institución escuela. La investigación de cohorte cualitativo y con estrategia de análisis de teoría fundamentada, se realizó a partir de treinta y seis autobiográficos y cuarenta entrevistas semi estructuradas a una muestra de cuarenta educadoras en formación, pertenecientes a las ocho universidades con gratuidad.This research contributes to the knowledge regarding the nature of the teachers’ professional identity (TPI). This study analyzes the personal histories of pedagogy students in early childhood education in Chile who belong to the first cohort of the gratuity system, which was recently reestablished after being abolished almost four decades ago. The main findings of this study make it possible to position and understand the existence, as a prefiguration, of a certain TPI prior to entering the career, an existence that is manifested in expressions of various identity structures, both in the spaces of primary socialization, the family, as well as in the secondary socialization space, the school. As we understand it these identity constructions are relevant at the time of career choice and function as implicit theories grouped as constitutive elements of their professional identity. We refer to certain representations that draw an arc among ideas such as vocation, skills, competencies, and the recognition of knowledge and tasks specific to their field of professional insertion. As revealed in the study, these identity constructions accompany the initial teacher training of future educators. These conceptions are reconstructed and become more complex in a process of conceptual change that is experienced during university education, especially in the framework of practical subjects and awareness raising regarding the professionalization of the role. Based on concepts such as habitus and Bourdieu's distinction, which theoretically position the research and guide the data collection processes, key concepts emerge such as prefiguring the TPI, career choice, biographies, and categories such as experiences, affections and emotions, as well as school institutions. Qualitative cohort research with a grounded theory analysis strategy was carried out using thirty-six autobiographical narrative stories and forty semi- structured interviews with a sample of forty educators in training belonging to the eight national universities with gratuity the year the system entered into force.
