dc.description	La selectividad en el sistema educativo argentino adquiere rasgos específicos, cuando se procesa a través de políticas de inclusión, que asimilan democratización con la eliminación de mecanismos formales de transición entre niveles. Este desdibujamiento, que activa mecanismos institucionalizados, pero menos formalizados, opera a modo de frontera simbólica, instituyendo en los sujetos, una forma particular de ser alumno o estudiante. Esta investigación explora dicha frontera, a través de un análisis de diseño cualitativo de la experiencia estudiantil – o, más precisamente, la etapa de integración-afiliación al nivel superior – de estudiantes del Ciclo Básico Común (CBC) de la Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA), e indaga acerca de los mecanismos implícitos de selección, que la institución pone en juego, y las estrategias que despliegan los estudiantes para atravesar el CBC. Un exhaustivo relevamiento de las investigaciones y discusiones en torno a los sistemas de ingreso y transiciones al nivel superior, y un desarrollo amplio de categorías conceptuales permitieron la reconstrucción de dicha experiencia. Los hallazgos, que aquí se presentan y analizan, identifican una tríada de sentidos - mérito (individual)-gratuidad-prestigio –, que instituye una forma particular de ser en la universidad. Así, pensar y cuestionar esta cadena de sentidos, que deviene en pilar de la igualdad de oportunidades, abre y abona al debate en torno a cómo las desigualdades socioeconómicas se entraman con desigualdades socioeducativas, desigualdades en el acceso y la permanencia, reales y efectivos, en el nivel superior. Educational policies promoting inclusion take on distinctive traits, when addressing selectivity in the Argentine higher education system, since the withdrawal of formal admittance arrangements has often been regarded as a synonym to democratization. Yet, acting as symbolic boundaries, such non-explicit institutionalized barriers both activate less formal selective mechanisms, and institute a specific manner of being students in all subjects. This research explores those boundaries, looking into the student experience – more specifically, the first stages of integration and engagement to higher education – among students of the first undergraduate year - common to all Buenos Aires University’s majors - or the Ciclo Básico Común (CBC, as per its acronym in Spanish). This qualitative study was designed to describe such non-explicit yet institutionalized selective mechanisms and portray the strategies that students develop throughout the CBC, in order to successfully access university. In building the conceptual framework of the research, scientific studies and debates both on admittance and transitions to higher education, as well as on social and school experience, were reviewed, enabling to reassemble the student experience in greater depth. The research findings presented hereto have identified that specific representations and connotations of (individual) merit, prestige and gratuity interact and model an also specific manner of becoming a UBA student. Ultimately, by raising awareness and discussing the implications of such interactions, as grantors of equal opportunities, this work is intended to shed a light on the ways that socioeconomic inequalities entangle with social-educational inequalities, in terms of real and effective access and permanence, in higher education.	es_ES
