Gabriela Sarzosa aborda las condiciones en las que emergió la sociología como campo de saber en el seno de la Universidad Central del Ecuador, entre 1955 y 1976. La autora muestra cómo hubo una “ruptura epistemológica” con la matriz jurídica en la que se encontraba atrapada la sociología, para dar paso a una matriz marxista. Describe el quiebre que se produjo entre dos formas de pensar, hacer y decir lo social, un quiebre entre dos formas de verdad, según la autora.
La obra muestra los objetos de conocimiento que se construyen en cada uno de estos momentos, y las problemáticas que esos objetos abren en el campo de saber sociológico.
