Esta tesis parte de la relación entre periurbanización y territorio, y su efecto en el sur de la parroquia suburbana de Nayón del Distrito Metropolitano de Quito, específicamente en lo que fue la Comuna de San Francisco de Tanda – Pelileo. El sector de estudio experimentó un notable crecimiento demográfico y de urbanizaciones desde mediados de los noventas hasta la actualidad, y se catalogó como un espacio de vivienda para gente se sectores medio – altos y altos. Debido al crecimiento disperso de la ciudad, la urbanización se legitimó en este espacio rural, considerando que al estar cerca de la urbe se convertiría en locus de asentamiento urbano. El sentido común podría dictar que este es un proceso “natural” de toda ciudad, pero encubre costos sociales para quienes habitaron por varios siglos estos territorios.
