This work is based on an ethnographic study developed in Murcia city (Spain). Its focused on the experiences and subjectivities in middle-aged women diagnosed with overweight or obesity, and immersed in some kind of nutri-dietetic treatment at the time of the research. First and main way, the idea of work is to inquire into the particular type of social experience that supposes this type of diagnosis, through the analysis of the narratives elaborated by these women, in order that this allows us to appreciate the role of questions sited away from the physicality and physiology defined within the biomedical meaning, such as personal identity, or the biographical representation of the self, in order to understand the suffering of being overweight in a broader, holistic and complex way. In addition, narratives allow us also to perceive the relative depth with which certain ideas and biomedical and socio-moral concepts, around overweight, they have been incorporated and subjectivized by this woman collective. And secondly and in a most tangential way, the work aims to propose some reflections of more general draft around the epistemological and methodological potentials and challenges, involved addressing certain health problems from a narrative approach, in which experiences, perceptions, feelings, or meanings are constituted into the plot of “objective realities”, the empiria on which another type of speeches or scientific ideas must be built partially at least.
