Yo te saludo, hermoso Tungurahua,
Y humilde inclino la sombría frente
Al ver la tuya erguida y refulgente,
Surcada por el rayo aterrador.
Desde un profundo y solitario valle
De plátanos frondosos revestido,
Hasta el cielo te elevas atrevido,
Y ostentas grandeza y esplendor
Orlan tu sien las tempestuosas nubes,
La encandecente lava arde en tu seno,
Y el adusto Agoyan con voz de trueno
Corre bajo tus plantas sin cesar.
Así también circunda mi cabeza
Del triste proceder la nube oscura,
Hierve en mi pecho un mar de desventura,
Mis huellas sigue el tétrico pesar.
