Description
La globalización definitiva del capitalismo, con nuevos actores emergentes y roles geopolíticos, debilitó la autocomprensión de América Latina como parte de la antigua periferia. Ahora afronta los mismos desafíos más otros nuevos. La crisis del tradicional multilateralismo nacido en la posguerra generó ámbitos como el G20, una mesa de intereses en la que Latinoamérica participa y expresa la complejidad de un mundo con múltiples relaciones centro-periferia. Así, la dinámica transición mundial le abre también a la región la oportunidad de reencontrarse con estrategias regionales propias y de tejer nuevas coaliciones de interés a nivel global. Si acierta, América Latina puede saltar desde su actual subdesarrollo directamente al siglo XXI, sin forzar la búsqueda del
noble ideal de integración que tanto la obsesionó.
The definitive globalization of capitalism, with new emerging actors and geopolitical roles, hasweakened the self-understanding of Latin America as part of the old periphery. Now, it faces the same challenges plus new ones. The crisis of the traditional multilateralism born in the postwar period gave rise to new spaces for debate, where an ample array of interests is on the table, such as the G20. In this new global structure, Latin America plays an active role, expressing the complexity of a world with multiple centerperiphery relations. Thus, this dynamic global transition opens the region to the opportunity to rebuild its own regional strategies and to weave new global coalitions of interest. If successful, Latin America can jump from its current underdevelopment directly into the 21st century, without forcing the search for the noble ideal of integration that once obsessed her.
