La seguridad pública es una cuestión que ha ocupado las agendas políticas en los más altos niveles estatales desde hace mucho tiempo. La novedad, al menos en Argentina, es el cada vez más alto grado de injerencia de los gobiernos locales en tan crucial tema. Este trabajo intenta mostrar −por medio del análisis de un caso práctico− cómo lo ha encarado la mediana ciudad de Olavarría, sus interacciones con el estado de la Provincia de Buenos Aires, sus niveles de apertura a la participación comunitaria y los resultados obtenidos de tales acciones entre 2004 y 2007.
Public security is an important issue in the political agendas at high state levels for a long time. The news, at least in Argentina, is the increasing degree of local governments’ involvement in such a crucial topic. This work tries to show −through the analysis of a practical case− how it has been faced in the medium-sized city of Olavarría, its interactions with the state of the Province of Buenos Aires, its opening levels to community participation and the obtained results of such actions between 2004 and 2007.
