El siguiente artículo entrega importantes antecedentes para comprender la construcción periodística en torno a la delincuencia juvenil en Chile. Los resultados aquí expuestos fueron el producto de una investigación encargada por UNICEF, cuyo objetivo fue describir la cobertura mediática de la entrada en vigencia de la Ley de Responsabilidad Penal Juvenil (LRPJ) en Chile. En el análisis de los resultados se constató que las principales fuentes utilizadas por los discursos periodísticos son aquellas consideradas ‘oficiales’ (actores políticos) y aquellos que están vinculados al sistema judicial/penal. Además, los dichos de estas fuentes suelen ocupar lugares más destacados dentro de la construcción de la noticia.
This article presents important background information to understand the journalistic construction around Youth Crime in Chile. The results here shown were the outcome of research commissioned by UNICEF, which aimed to describe the media coverage related to the rule of the Youth Penal Responsibility Law (LRPJ) in Chile. The analysis of the results confirmed that the main sources used by journalistic discourses are those considered ‘official’ (political actors) and those linked to the judicial/penal system. In addition, what these sources say is usually placed in the most prominent places in the news’s construction.
