En concordancia con los estudios de gran parte de autores que se reflejarán a continuación en este texto. Las mujeres a nivel mundial ocupan aproximadamente el 30% de cargos políticos (porcentaje que no refleja su población mundial). Pese a que el porcentaje de representación política general sigue siendo bajo, autores como: Ofei-Aboagye (2000); Kitagawa (2004); Navarrete y Morales (2006); Smith, Reingold y Owens (2012); Sundström y Stockemer (2015); Vengroff, Nyiri y Fugiero (2017) plantean que los mayores espacios de participación política femenina se encuentran en los gobiernos locales.
