Se estudia un caso en el noroeste argentino en que, en el marco del escenario global de creciente commodificación del mercado productor de quinua, tuvo lugar la aplicación de un programa institucional para su fortalecimiento y expansión en las comunidades rurales andinas. Si bien estos esfuerzos no lograron la expansión esperada, se sostiene no obstante que, lejos de expresar la crisis de los sistemas campesinos de dicha región o el desinterés por el cultivo, refleja criterios de priorización no mercantiles tanto de los territorios agrarios como del cultivo en cuestión.
A case is studied in northwestern Argentina where, in the global scenario of increasing commodification of the quinoa production market, an institutional programme was implemented to strengthen and expand quinoa in rural Andean communities. Although these efforts did not achieve the expansion as expected, it is nevertheless argued that, far from expressing the crisis of these peasant systems or a lack of interest in the crop, it reflects non-market prioritisation criteria for both the agrarian territories and the crop in question.
