Hace casi veinte años que la violencia obstétrica ha sido documentada como una práctica normalizada e invisibilizada en la región latinoamericana. Aunque Ecuador cuenta con una ley que reconoce y define la violencia obstétrica, esta no ha logrado ser erradicada y además todavía es poco reconocida en el país. En el presente artículo se examina tal situación con el fin de aportar evidencias al campo médico-obstétrico y al desarrollo de políticas públicas de salud sobre este tipo de violencia.
Nearly twenty years ago, obstetric violence was documented for the first time as normalized and invisible in Latin America. Although Ecuador has a law that recognizes and defines obstetric violence, it has not been eradicated and is not well recognized. The aim of this article is to examine the situation of obstetric violence in Ecuador in order to contribute evidence to the medical-obstetric field and to the development of public health policies related to this type of violence.
