Retomando aportes de Abram de Swaan y Norbert Elias, en el artículo se plantea que las interdependencias entre naturaleza y procesos (des)civilizatorios son cruciales para un enfoque procesual sobre las Áreas Naturales Protegidas (ANP). Se caracterizan las propiedades recurrentes de las ANP y sus relaciones con diferentes modelos de gestión, con ejemplos de México y Argentina. Se propone el concepto de “compartimentalización” como marco para futuros análisis comparativos de ANP y se realiza una revisión bibliográfica preliminar de investigaciones antecedentes, documentos oficiales y trabajos etnográficos en México y Argentina. Se concluye con una síntesis de los principales elementos compartidos de las ANP consideradas, y de las posibilidades del concepto de “compartimentalización”.
Reassuming Abram de Swaan’s and Norbert Elias’ contributions, the article observes that the interdependencies between nature and (dis)civilizing processes are essential for a processual focus on Protected Natural Areas (PNA). It describes common features of PNA and their relationships with various management models, taking examples from Mexico and Argentina. It proposes a bibliographical review of background studies, official documents, and ethnographic works in Mexico and Argentina as a framework for future comparative analyses of PNA. It concludes with a summary of the key components that PNA have in common as well as the potential applications of the “compartmentalization” concept.
