dc.descriptionLas armas y municiones transitan ilícitamente por la región centroamericana. En este artículo se parte desde la situación en Guatemala para describir modalidades del tráfico, los tipos de armas, los usuarios y los demandantes de las mismas, así como las circunstancias que favorecen el mantenimiento del mercado ilegal en la región. También se presenta la forma en que operan los intermediarios, con base en casos reales sucedidos entre diferentes actores regionales. Se trata un caso paradigmático de trueque de armas entre Nicaragua y Panamá que terminó en manos de paramilitares colombianos, en el que actuó de intermediaria una empresa guatemalteco-israelí. Este hecho fue investigado por la misma Organización de Estados Americanos (OEA). Se plantean las conexiones que pueden llegar a tener estas empresas intermediarias y la forma en que siguen operando en Guatemala y en la región.es_EC
dc.descriptionWeapons and ammunitions flow illicitly by the Central American region. This article starts from the situation in Guatemala to describe traffic patterns, types of weapons, users, and arms demanders, as well as the situations that favor the maintenance of the illegal market in the region. It also presents the way in which brokers operate, based on actual cases occurred between different regional actors. It treats a paradigmatic case of exchange of weapons between Nicaragua and Panama that finished in the hands of paramilitary Colombian groups, being an intermediary a Guatemalan-Israeli company. This affair was investigated by the OAS. The article shows the connections that can get these intermediaries and the form in which they continue operating in Guatemala and the region.es_EC
