El libro constituye el más importante esfuerzo por analizar los temas de la tierra desde una perspectiva de género. Su importancia tiene relación con los cuatro tomos coordinados por las autoras a inicios de los años 80, publicado bajo el título: Debate sobre la mujer en América Latina y el Caribe: discusión acerca de la unidad producción reproducción. Especialmente el tomo II sobre las mujeres trabajadoras del Agro. En este sentido el trabajo no solamente da cuenta de lo acontecido desde entonces, sino que con mayor rigor conceptual aborda las relaciones entre género y propiedad rural y lo examina desde muy diferentes ángulos.
