Description
La Red Informática de la Iglesia en América Latina (RIIAL) nació hacia 1987, antes de la explosión social de Internet y lejos de intuir su advenimiento tal como luego se manifestó. En principio era una red pensada para servir a la comunicación interna entre los Obispos presentes en América Latina. Se trataba de impulsar el servicio a la comunión que se realizaba desde el CELAM, usando la entonces novísima "telemática". Los Obispos del continente mantienen una interactividad extraordinaria y muy fructuosa, que tanto el CELAM como el Pontificio Consejo para las Comunicaciones Sociales desearon apoyar a través del uso de las computadoras, no como máquinas de escribir, sino como medios de comunicación.
