Este artículo presenta una revisión crítica del dossier de la revista Íconos 24 "lo global y lo local en el medio rural". El dossier nos propone una reflexión muy trascendente para Ecuador, justo
cuando se negocia un Tratado de Libe Comercio con los Estados Unidos que influirá directamente
en el mundo rural ecuatoriano, de partida, tan heterogéneo social y territorialmente. La
discusión propuesta, se libera, sin embargo, de esa coyuntura y, así, los distintos autores analizan
los conflictos estructurales de fondo de las localidades rurales para confrontar la apertura y
el influjo de la globalización, advirtiendo los posibles intersticios para una inserción más favorable desde lo local.
This article presents a critical review on the papers that aim the central topic of Íconos 24: "global and local issues in the rural environment". The articles analyze a very important theme for Ecuador, just when it is on discussion the Free Trade Agreement with the United States. The proposed debate, however, goes beyond the conjuncture and studies the deep structural conflicts among the heterogeneous rural communities to cope with the openness and the absorption of the globalization process, even if there would be some favorable room for local development under the new circumstances.
