El presente artículo busca explicaciones para los derrocamientos de tres presidentes ecuatorianos,
que han marcado los puntos culminantes de una década de inestabilidad. Lo hace indagando
en el campo de las movilizaciones sociales que precedieron a cada uno de esos hechos,
con especial referencia a su composición social y a los objetivos de sus integrantes. En la parte
final se proponen algunas hipótesis acerca de la movilización en contra del gobierno de Gutiérrez.
Sugiere que no son válidas las explicaciones de racismo y de temor clasista. Enlaza la explicación
al surgimiento de reivindicaciones democráticas originadas tanto en los bajos rendimientos
del sistema político como en el carácter dictatorial que iba tomando el último gobierno.
The article looks for explanations for the overthrows of three Ecuadorian presidents, which have marked the culminating points of a decade of instability. It analyses into the field of the social mobilizations that preceded each one of those facts, with special reference to its social composition and the objectives of its members. In the final part, some hypotheses are set out about the mobilization against Gutiérrez’ government. It suggests that explanations of racism and clasism are not valid. Rather, it connects the explanation to the sprouting of democratic vindications originated so much in the low yields of the political system like in the dictatorial character of the last government.
