Abstract
Description
The interest of this paper is to present a sociological analysis of the construction of individual and collective afroecuadorian identities and the political actions links in a neighborhood context in Quito city. From a postcolonial perspective it is conceived identities a articulation of discourses and position that locate or adopted the subjects in certain contexts. Therefore identities are constant constructions that articulate various social categories, this articulation placing subjects in vulnerable situations but also give oportunities of agency. To do this analyse, two life stories of Afro-Ecuadorian women was made. The analysis shows that despite racial and class differences between the two women, gender and ethnicity overlaps allowing these differences to work together in a constant struggle against racism, sexism and discrimination. These women in their cultural and political actions not only claim their identities but also broadcast their rights as women and ethnic group.
