El uso de la radio como medio de comunicación masivo en apoyo a la alfabetización y post--alfabetización no constituye una experiencia reciente
en el Ecuador. En la provincia de Chimborazo, hace más de dos décadas, la Diócesis de Riobamba inició un programa de alfabetización para campesinos,
utilizando un sistema de "onda cautiva" con un transmisor de 1 Kw.
