Esta tesis es el resultado de un proceso que busca analizar la contribución de las prácticas de la lectura en la participación ciudadana de los jóvenes voluntarios de algunas bibliotecas públicas municipales de Colombia. Se usó un enfoque cualitativo y se trata del estudio de caso de 10 bibliotecas públicas municipales adscritas a las redes departamentales de Putumayo, Cesar, Bolívar, Cundinamarca y Boyacá; cuyas redes a su vez conforman la Red Nacional de Bibliotecas Públicas del país. Los resultados de esta reflexión indican que la práctica de la lectura se fundamenta en tres ejes, a saber: lo social, lo político y lo económico. Cada uno de estos aspectos se traslapa con un cuarto componente que es el altruismo de los voluntarios que utilizan la práctica de la lectura como una herramienta de acción social.
This thesis is the result of a process aimed at analyzing the contribution of reading practices to the civic participation of young volunteers from some municipal public libraries in Colombia. A qualitative approach was used, and this study focuses on ten municipal public libraries associated with the departmental networks of Putumayo, Cesar, Bolívar, Cundinamarca, and Boyacá. These networks, in turn, are part of the country's National Network of Public Libraries. The findings indicate that reading practices are shaped by three main dimensions: social, political, and economic. Each of these aspects intersects with a fourth component: the altruism of volunteers who use reading as a tool for social action.
