En las últimas décadas, enfoques teóricos críticos que incluyen los estudios subalternos, poscoloniales, decoloniales y feministas convergieron en su crítica de una sociología que se pretendía universal pero que fue enraizada en el eurocentrismo. Tomar en consideración estas críticas requiere una revisión del canon de la disciplina y renovar la perspectiva de una “sociología global” que durante demasiado tiempo se confundió con la sociología occidental. Sin embargo, el giro decolonial no invalida el proyecto de la sociología global, todo lo contrario.
Over the past decades, critical theories including subaltern, postcolonial, decolonial and feminist studies, converged in their critique of a sociology that claimed to be universal but was rooted in Eurocentrism. Taking these critiques into account requires a revision of the canon of the discipline and a renewal of the perspective of a “global sociology” that for too long was confused with Western sociology. However, the decolonial turn does not invalidate the project of global sociology, quite the contrary.
