El artículo analiza algunos resultados obtenidos a partir de una investigación de campo desarrollada
en torno al Instituto de los Mexicanos en el Exterior (IME). Se centra en las prácticas de
gobierno de sus funcionarios, quienes interpretan las representaciones sociales sobre la población
gobernada en términos de diáspora. Además, analiza la estructura organizacional del IME
y la noción y la práctica de red en el trabajo de esta institución. A partir de ello, se muestra un
accionar de gobierno que opera en el centro de tensión de dicotomías políticas modernas: la de
lo interior y lo exterior, y la de lo público y lo privado.
This article discusses some results obtained from field research carried out in the Institute of Mexicans Abroad (IME). It focuses on the government practices of its officials and interprets the social representations of a population governed in terms of diaspora. It also analyzes the organizational structure of the IME and the concept and practice of networks in the work of the institution. From there the actions of a government that operates in the tense centre of political modern dichotomies is demonstrated: the dichotomies of the interior/exterior and public/private.
