Los libertadores sintieron el mal y lo sacudieron como una carga indigna.; no conocían la guerra, y se formaron capitanes ilustres; no tenían soldados, y los pidieron á la casualidad, y cuando les faltaron armas, fabricaron de una piedra un ariete, de una estaca una lanza y un obús de la cavidad de una guadua. Nos redimieron de la Metrópoli así, para confusión de los oportunistas, pues si aquello fué justo, debemos imitarlo, y si fué un error, no debemos conmemorar estos aniversarios.
