Abstract
Description
Complementary currencies, also known as quasi-currencies, are alternative instruments to sovereign currency that can contribute to local territorial development. Taking the case study of the city of Dina Huapi (Río Negro, Argentina), we identify the key role of the local government in creating a complementary system in the context of the COVID-19 crisis. We describe how the implementation of this tool has served the objective of revitalizing the local economy and effectively managing public funds as well.
