El presente trabajo de investigación tiene como objetivo central analizar las dinámicas de cooperación en materia de seguridad y defensa en América del Sur en el marco de la construcción de un nuevo regionalismo sudamericano centrándose específicamente en el caso de la Unión de Naciones Suramericanas (UNASUR) y su apéndice el Consejo de Defensa Suramericano (CDS) desde su creación en 2008 hasta el 2013. A través de una aproximación constructivista, se pretende examinar la medida en que se puede caracterizar a la UNASUR y al CDS como una comunidad de seguridad en formación.
