En este trabajo se examinan algunos de los factores que tienen que ver con el papel tan precario que sobre el desarrollo económico y social del país han desempeñado y siguen desempeñando la ciencia y la tecnología. Se emplea un análisis comparativo con otros países que hace cuatro o cinco décadas presentaban un menor desarrollo tecnológico y económico que el nuestro, y que en la actualidad se encuentran en los primeros planos de la competencia internacional en aspectos de comercio y tecnología, producto interno bruto per cápita, niveles educativos y perspectivas a futuro.
This work analyzes some of the factors that have to do with the present and past precarious impact of science and technology on Mexico´s social and economic development. A comparative analysis is made with other countries that four or five decades ago had a lesser economic and technological development than ours, and which today are in the first places of international competition in terms of commercial and technological development, per capita Gross Domestic Product, and future perspectives. We also present some arguments to show that the national development of science and technology has been carried out based on a wrong model of the relationships between science, technology and development.
