A partir de una visión ampliada de la economía, en esta tesis utilizo el método etnográfico para estudiar las prácticas económicas de migrantes peruanas que trabajan en el servicio doméstico y de cuidados en Buenos Aires. Me centro en dos escenarios, las economías de los hogares (transnacionales) de las migrantes y las relaciones laborales con sus empleadores, iluminando el nexo entre las relaciones sociales e íntimas y las prácticas económicas. Evidenció la conexión entre los procesos económicos y políticos de Perú y Argentina y las trayectorias de vida de las mujeres, resaltando la relevancia de las relaciones de género y parentesco para las economías de los hogares migrantes. En el escenario laboral explico que la reciprocidad y la afectividad juegan un papel fundamental en las relaciones entre empleadas y empleadores, observando que estas están atravesadas por desigualdades de clase, nacionalidad y raza que emergen claramente en los desenlaces. Based on a diverse idea of the economy, in this thesis I carry out an ethnography of the economic practices of Peruvian female migrants who work in the domestic service and care sector in Buenos Aires. I focus on two settings, (transnational) household economies and the relationship of domestic workers to employers, shedding light on the link between social and intimate relations, and economic practices. I show that the women’s life histories are connected to economic and political processes in Argentina and Peru, underlining the relevance of gender and kin relations for migrant households. In the work setting I explain that reciprocity and love play a crucial role in the relationship between domestic workers and employers, noting that class, race and nationality inequalities underlie these relations and come up clearly in blowups.
