El trabajo cuenta propia representa una parte importante de las formas de inserción laboral en los países latinoamericanos. Este tipo de empleo es una alternativa a la falta de empleo y a las malas condiciones de trabajo en empleos asalariados. Sin embargo, son empleos de bajas remuneraciones y que se realizan en deficientes condiciones de trabajo. En este artículo de investigación, se analiza el trabajo cuenta propia en Colombia, su evolución reciente, y se realiza una caracterización de este tipo de empleo en contraste con el trabajo asalariado.
Self-employment represents a significant portion in Latin American labor markets. This kind of work is an alternative for lack of employment and poor working conditions in wage-earning employment. However, those are employments with low remunerations and they are made in bad environment conditions. This paper analyses self-employment in Colombia, its recent trends, and a characterization of this kind of work is showed. Through out the article self-employment is compared with wage-earning employment.
