Muchos recordarán en Solanas al director de La hora de los hornos, un verdadero manifiesto del cine testimonial y militante de la década del 60. Los hijos de Fierro y más recientemente El exilio de Gardel y Sur completan su filmografía, una de las más ricas y sugestivas del Río de la Plata, premiada y conocida en el mundo entero. Su última película El viaje, que narra la búsqueda de un padre por parte de un adolescente a través de América Latina ha concitado la atención internacional.
