La guerra en El Salvador fue esencialmente un fenómeno político en el que la función comunicacional tuvo siempre una importancia destacada. Radios, agencias deprensa, medios internacionales, cine, videos y fotografía fueron parte del conflicto. En este contexto, el cine documental logró un desarrollo destacado.
