Abstract
Description
This research sheds light on the topic of “Women and Technology, access and inclusion in training areas and employment, the case of Jóvenes a Programar” (Ceibal- Uruguay). It addresses the inconvenience of unequal access for women to training areas and employment in technology in Uruguay, as a social concern of gender inequality, as it prevents them from entering places of great economic growth such as the IT sector. The problem of research that is discussed is “The stereotypes of gender and sociocultural patterns that have an impact on the choice and access to education in STEM areas”. It is considered that possible answers to this public concern of gender inequality can be found here. For this investigation, a mixed approach has been used, combining quantitative information and qualitative techniques. From the data contributed by the methodological instruments applied it could be confirmed that, indeed, these stereotypes and established cultural patterns negatively affect the access and inclusion of women in IT areas. It is deemed necessary to propose public policy in order to foster the total development and autonomy of women as it is considered, first and foremost, a Human Rights issue.
