Abstract
Description
This paper analyzes the development of contract killings in Ecuador as a phenomenon that does not arise exclusively from the expansion of drug trafficking in Colombia; it analyzes it from the economic point of view, highlighting the commercialization of death. The lack of typification in the penal code, the impossibility of knowing with certainty the surrounding circumstances , the absence of record-keeping, a high level of impunity and even the media show built around it, make it difficult to make decisions regarding public policy. Methodologically , the paper presents a first exploratory approach resorting to three national newspapers; highlighting some characteristics of contract killings, as well as the effects they have in society as well as in State institutions. Finally, it suggests the importance of delving deeper into this problem.
