El objetivo central de esta tesis es caracterizar sociodemográficamente a los jóvenes mexicanos y analizar la contribución económica al hogar familiar del subconjunto de los que trabajan, ya sea que estudien o no. La fuente de datos utilizada es la Encuesta Nacional de Juventud (ENJ) 2005, el universo comprende a las personas de 12 a 29 años.
The main objectives of this thesis are to characterize sociodemographically the mexican youth and to analyze the economic contribution to the household of their parents of those young who work, either of those who study or just work. The data source is the National Youth Survey (ENJ) 2005, whose universe is individuals aged 12 to 29 years. Based on a descriptive statistical analysis and the adjustment of a binary logistic regression model, the following results were found: 1) Mexican youth are a heterogeneous social group that holds a variety of situations according to sociodemographic contextual (socioeconomic status), family (relationship to the head of the household) and individual factors (sex, age, marital status, schooling). 2) The subpopulation of young people who resides with their parents has important demographic and socioeconomic differences, being the social class and the gender the main axes of differentiation. 3) The highest propensity to contribute monetarily to the households of their parents occurs in those young who are males, older, married, with low socioeconomic status, who only works and has recently changed jobs, and those with a laboral contract.
