Abstract
Description
This research papers studies a population that works s with outstanding levels of uncertainty and precariousness in the Mexican labor market context, works: the poor informal workers. The paper works around the characterization of this group, in its socio-demographic features as well as its labor conditions, aiming to inquire about their distinctiveness. In the Mexican case, this inquiry is particularly relevant, due to the fact that in contemporary Mexico one of every two workers is an informal one, and among these around 50 per cent lives in poverty. These results show that the poor informal workers have a low educational level and that a considerable proportion informed by young man and women. Most of their labor relations are concluded in the commerce, personal services, construction and manufacturing sectors, besides other manual labor employments. These characteristics also show that these workers find themselves in employment positions with high level of precariousness (understood as the lack of social security and low incomes). Therefore, this research paper –as a first glance to the problems survived by the population here studied- remind us about the need to complete more research able to provide a deeper understanding of the life conditions of this population, with the ultimate goal of having certain influence on them.
