El presente texto se enfoca en el tratamiento discursivo de la devoción a Jesús Malverde en sitios de noticias mexicanos, con el propósito de identificar y clasificar las formas de discriminación que recaen sobre ella. La investigación se inscribe en un marco más amplio de desigualdad hacia las religiones minoritarias en México, donde el catolicocentrismo condiciona la percepción y deslegitimación de otras creencias. A partir del Análisis Crítico del Discurso (ACD) aplicado a un corpus de 105 notas periodísticas, se identificó que 74 de ellas (70.48%) reproducen un tratamiento discriminatorio. Entre las estrategias discursivas más frecuentes se encuentran: el silenciamiento de los devotos; la adjetivación estigmatizante que vincula explícitamente la devoción con la criminalidad; el recurso a implicaturas y presuposiciones que asocian de manera implícita a Malverde con el narcotráfico; la deslegitimación institucional basada en el no-reconocimiento de la Iglesia católica; y la omisión de fuentes que respalden los discursos de estigmatización explícitos.
This paper focuses on the discursive treatment of devotion to Jesús Malverde in Mexican news outlets, with the aim of identifying and classifying the forms of discrimination directed against it. The research is situated within a broader framework of inequality toward minority religions in Mexico, where Catholicocentrism shapes both the perception and delegitimization of alternative beliefs. Using Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) on a corpus of 105 news articles, it was found that 74 of them (70.48%) reproduce discriminatory treatment. The most frequent discursive strategies include: silencing of devotees; stigmatizing adjectives that explicitly link the devotion to criminality; the use of implicatures and presuppositions that implicitly associate Malverde with drug trafficking; institutional delegitimization based on the lack of recognition by the Catholic Church; and the omission of sources that could support explicitly stigmatizing discourses.
