Este artículo examina el concepto del barroco en la obra del filósofo Bolívar Echeverría. Aparte de realizar una exegesis del concepto del barroco de Echeverría, problematiza las categorías centrales que Echeverría moviliza en su discusión sobre el barroco. Este texto propone que la distinción valor de uso y valor de cambio es poco fructífera para comprender el barroco como lo es también la idea del barroco como estetización de la vida. En la misma línea, discute las implicaciones para el fetichismo barroco de asociar al barroco al valor de uso; cuestiona la ausencia de un concepto de poder barroco en Bolívar Echeverría y los límites de su categoría del mestizaje para leer el barroco andino.
This article examines the concept of the baroque in the works of philosopher Bolívar Echeverría. Not only does it present an exegesis of the concept of Echeverría’s vision of the baroque, but it also problematizes the central categories on which Echeverría focuses in his discussions surrounding the baroque. This paper proposes that neither the distinction between use-value and exchange value, nor the idea of the baroque as an aestheticization of life are productive when attempting to understand the concept of the baroque. In the same vein, this paper discusses baroque fetishism and the underlying implications of associating the baroque with use-value. Finally, it challenges the absence of a concept of baroque power in Bolívar Echeverria’s works, as well as the limited readings that his category of mestizaje allows when interpreting the andean baroque.
