En el 2006, México se unió a una tendencia internacional al implementar por vez primera el voto de sus nacionales en el exterior, y a pesar de las fuertes expectativas que se tenían sobre este primer ejercicio, la participación fue baja si la comparamos con el resto de los países que tienen esta modalidad de voto. Es por ello que el presente trabajo definió los factores que determinaban una alta o baja participación electoral del voto en el exterior alrededor del mundo, siendo la primera investigación en su tipo.
In 2006, Mexico joined an international trend to allow for the first time the vote of its nationals abroad, and despite the high expectations that were on this experience, the turnout was low, compared with other countries that have this type of vote. This study identified the factors determining a high or low turnout in voting abroad around the world, by being the first study of its kind.
