Los medios de comunicación tienen un rol fundamental en la construcción social de la realidad y en la representación estereotipada de algunos sectores de ella. Este artículo analiza el tratamiento informativo de los noticieros de tv del Bío Bío respecto a los pueblos originarios y profundiza en el estigma social que recae sobre los indígenas de la zona. Más de un 95 por ciento de las noticias relacionadas con el pueblo mapuche tienen una connotación negativa, asociando al comunero como una persona violenta, ajena al diálogo, que no respeta el estado de derecho ni tampoco a sus instituciones.
The media have a fundamental role in the social construction of reality and in the stereotyped representation of some sectors of it. This article analyzes the informative treatment of the Bío Bío’s TV newscasts regarding indigenous peoples and deals with the social stigma that falls on the indigenous people of the area. More than 95 percent of the news related to the Mapuche people have a negative connotation, associating the comunero as a violent person, oblivious to the dialogue, who does not respect the rule of law or their institutions.
A mídia tem um papel fundamental na construção social da realidade e na representação estereotipada de alguns setores dela. Este artigo analisa o tratamento informativo dos noticiários televisivos de Bío Bío sobre os povos indígenas e aprofunda no estigma social que recai sobre os povos indígenas da região. Mais de 95% das notícias relacionadas ao povo mapuche têm uma conotação negativa, associando o comunero como uma pessoa violenta, indiferente ao diálogo, que não respeita o Estado de Direito ou suas instituições.
