Description
Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, a Mexican nun who lived duiing the seventeenth century, vvrote a letter to the authorities of the Church that has been interpreted as the earliest manifest about women intellectual’s rights in the Americas (Stavans, 1997). In an apparent contradiction with her vvritings, Sor Juana, at the end of her life, undertook an oath of silence and act of resignation. Numerous interpretations of Sor Juana work and life have been undertaken during the last century.
