El número recoge la mayor parte de las aportaciones reunidas en el simposio “Palabras para sanar: abordajes iberoamericanos sobre corporalidad, subjetividad y salud”. Investigadores iberoamericanos de distinta procedencia nos adentramos en el campo de la salud, la enfermedad y la sanación partiendo de objetos y problemas de estudio tan significativamente diversos como puede comprobarse sencillamente echando un vistazo al índice de este número, para mostrar, o al menos pensar juntos sobre ello, que conceptos como los de persona, tecnología, contexto socio-cultural y simbolismo van inevitablemente de la mano. Una de las preguntas que planteaba el simposio, era ¿cuáles son las utilidades potenciales de las narrativas en torno al sufrimiento, al dolor y a la curación? En ese sentido, de manera general pese a su heterogeneidad, entre los textos aquí publicados puede apreciarse un horizonte histórico y transcultural común desde el cual pensar la enfermedad, casi siempre como algún tipo de desequilibrio no solo en los cuerpos sino en la vida de las personas, que más allá de una visión occidental y tecno-científica apoyada en sus recurrentes concepciones dualistas, de sus abordajes individualizantes y su eminente impronta funcional, nos ofrece la oportunidad a través de las narrativas, de contemplar y poner en valor la enorme variabilidad humana a la hora de enfrentar la enfermedad, también de transitar por las formas de atención, así como lo artificial de la tendencia a la homogeneización que predomina en el campo de la salud si no atiende a la elemental experiencialidad humana de sus objetos de intervención.
