Esta investigación indaga sobre los factores que afectan la aprobación presidencial en Colombia, examinando el poder explicativo de distintas teorías planteadas en la bibliografía. El análisis cubre 192 observaciones correspondientes a los meses transcurridos entre agosto de 1998 y julio de 2014. Para el cumplimiento del objetivo de investigación, se corre un modelo explicativo para testear la relación entre la popularidad de los presidentes y un conjunto de variables independientes. Entre los hallazgos principales, se ha encontrado una influencia significativa y negativa del paso del tiempo, la inflación y mayormente el desempleo, confirmando las teorías del ciclo electoral y el voto económico.
