La censura repugna siempre al espíritu: aparece como un insulto al autor y a la obra que tanto esfuerzo y sacrificio cuesta generalmente, proferido en nombre del supuesto derecho que asiste a un funcionario o a un grupo de individuos, no siempre los más lúcidos o sensatos, de prohibir o mutilar una creación intelectual. (Me he preguntado con frecuencia, si esa práctica no entraña cierta revancha, por envidia u odio, contra la suerte: el poeta Vinicius de Moraes, cuando formó parte de la Comisión de Censura de Río de Janeiro, se vanagloriaba: “Dejaba pasar todo, no cortaba nada”.) De las dos formas de censura, la de carácter político –explicable, a veces, por razones de seguridad, particularmente en situación de conflicto internacional- y la de índole moral, solo esta última ha sido aceptada por el mundo entero, cuando se refiere al cine.
