Un norteamericano está aprendiendo español. Maneja y pasablemente las construcciones regulares –esas a las que puede llegar un autómata- , y piensa que la cosa “está fácil”. Llega a su clase atrasado y todo él norteamericanamente satisfecho, comenta: - Yo arrepiento haber llegado tarde. Y el profesor le corrige: - Míster: así no se dice en español. El verbo es “arrepentirse”, pronominal. Se dice: “Yo me arrepiento”, “tú te arrepientes” y así. El gringo pregunta: - Y eso, ¿por qué? – Bueno: porque así se construye ese verbo en español. Acepta el usaíta el tropiezo y “arrepentido” se corrige: - Yo me arrepiento haber legado tarde. Y el profesor vuelve a corregirle: - No. Así no se dice: “arrepentirse” se construye con “de”: “Yo me arrepiento de…” – Pero en inglés eso no ser así. – Así es. El español, en muchos caos de verbos, se construye de modo diferente. Así que al final nuestro yanqui acaba bien arrepentido o arrepentido bien de su atraso.
